SPODE & COPELAND BRIEF HISTORY:

1733 - Josiah Spode I born - commenced work as an apprentice potter at the age of 16 at Turner & Banks

1764 - became manager

1770 - the firm became known as spode

1776 - became sole owner

1784 - Josiah Spode II became involved and they were also joined by William Copeland (aged 19)

1805 - J Spode II & W Copeland became a partnership

1833 - joined partnership with T Garrett becoming Copeland & Garrett

1847 - partnership disolved and known as WT Copeland

1867 - known as Copeland & sons

1890 - name of Spode re-introduced sometimes with Copeland, sometimes without

1931 - purchased Jackson & Gosling (Grosvenor china)

1970 - reverted back to Spode Ltd

1976 - taken over by Worcester
